Construction and visualisation of three-dimensional facial statistics

چکیده
This paper presents a new method for the construction of three-dimensional (3D) probabilistic facial averages and demonstrates the potential for applications in clinical craniofacial research and patient assessment. Averages are constructed from a database of registered laser-range scans and photographic images using feature based image warping. Facial features are extracted using a template of connected contours, adapted to each subject interactively using snakes. Each subject's images are warped to the average template shape and the mean depth, colour and covariance matrix is found at each point. Statistical comparison of individuals with an average or between two averages is visualised by converting the probabilities to a coloured texture map.

Assessment, validation, and visualisation of bony changes in crano-facial surgery
Mid-facial distraction osteogenesis is a novel promising method to correct severe mid-facial hypoplasia and retrognathia. Although aesthetic improvements are obvious, the analysis of three-dimensional bony changes created through distraction was impossible so far. Now, we present a tool chain employing voxel based registration and 3D visualisation to assess and analyse the structural changes in...
متن کاملHigh-dimensional visualisation for novelty detection
A key step in the application of novelty detection techniques to high-dimensional data is the exploration of relationships that are typically not obvious when dimensions are examined independently. Visualisation techniques allow such exploration of the structure of the data set by mapping high-dimensional data into lower dimensionality for inspection. This paper discusses the application of the...
متن کاملMandibular Dimensional Changes with aging in Three Dimensional Computed Tomographic Study in 21 to 50 Year old Men and Women
Introduction: Raising the knowledge of skeletal and soft tissue changes with aging has been highly essential due to an increasing demand for aesthetic facial surgery following aging. The aim of this study is to evaluate the three dimensional computed tomographic images and process of changes in mandible with aging. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, the facial CT scans were obta...
متن کاملGeological 3D modelling: Scientific discovery and enhanced understanding of the sub-surface, with examples from the UK
In recent years, with the improvement of computer processing power and the development of sophisticated visualisation software, the traditional static views of geological maps, cross-sections, and other analogue representations have been replaced by digital, three dimensional (3D) models. Building these 3D models involves the assembly of many previously isolated and disparate datasets into a si...
متن کاملTissue Engineering Scaffolds: History, Types and Construction Methods
Tissue engineering is a rapidly growing research field, potentially capable of de novo tissue and organ construction. This approach is used to improve efficiency both in the tissue and cell culture. This method is required to provide bodies in vivo three-dimensional conditions outside of the body (ex vivo). To achieve this goal, given tissue cells are cultured on the tissue engineering scaffold...
